This tune starts out with a pair of acoustics, heavily flanged, panned hard
left and right. The signature guitar riff was built around a G Major scale
at the twelfth fret. If you listen closely to the first verse you'll hear
some strings layered low in the mix to fatten things up a bit. The drums
kick in for the first chorus, then it's back to the guitar riff. For the
second verse I brought in the horn part to make things a little more
interesting. The breakdown has this cool patch of my Korg X-3, I think
it's called "neutron", that sounds pretty cool behind the vocal
The lyric sort of follows that old premise, " today is the first day of
the rest of your life". No matter how bad things might seem at a
particular time, you just have to move on and live for the moment, ya know
follow your dreams. Sometimes when it seems everything is going against
you that's when you really need to just step back, dust yourself off and
jump right back in. Life is too short for could-haves, should-haves, and
would-haves.
